Everything so Far

March 24th, 2009 by amymac · No Comments ·

openingpostcardcopyJen Mickelborough was our first short-term artist-in-residence. She and her husband Fran came to Austin on a three-month leave from his career as a parachuter in New Zealand. Jen is a fantastic artist who works in mixed media using primarily textiles and acrylic and used her three-month stay at the Bloom House to finish a series which ended in “Everything So Far”, her first gallery show April 2008.

During her stay here, we loved watching Jen’s work come together in new ways. She’d always been a prolific textile artist and painter but began to bring the two together into three-dimensional pieces that exploded with an emotional vibrancy. Our hope has always been to watch artists reach an “a-ha!” moment, where they challenge the things they’ve done in the past and integrate what may at times feel like disparate disciplines.

Lucky for us, Fran Mickelborough is talented at masonry, and designed and installed a gorgeous stone fence in front of the house.
